Terms of Use

Welcome to TTIFF.org, the official website of Trust & Transparency in Fossil Fuels ("TTIFF," "we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using this website, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

TTIFF is an independent nonprofit watchdog organization in formation. Our mission is to provide independent verification of safety and regulatory compliance in the fossil fuel industry, to protect whistleblowers who come forward with credible concerns, and to advocate for policy reforms that close the gap between paper compliance and real-world readiness.

This website is provided for informational purposes. You may view, download, and print content for personal, noncommercial use provided you retain all copyright and attribution notices. You may not modify, republish, or redistribute any content without prior written permission.

No Legal or Engineering Advice

Nothing on this website constitutes legal, engineering, regulatory, or professional advice. TTIFF is not a law firm, engineering consultancy, or regulatory agency. No attorney-client, consultant-client, or other professional relationship is created by accessing this site, submitting a concern, or communicating with TTIFF.

Our published analyses, findings, and reports are informational. They are not substitutes for independent professional consultation on any specific legal, engineering, safety, or regulatory matter. If you are facing a specific legal or technical issue, you should consult qualified counsel or a licensed professional in your jurisdiction.

TTIFF makes no representation or warranty that the information on this site is complete, current, or error-free. Regulatory citations and engineering references are provided in good faith but may become outdated or superseded without notice.

Submissions & Intake

If you contact TTIFF through our intake address (trust@ttiff.org) or any other channel, you should understand the following:

Initial Contact Does Not Create Representation

Sending information to TTIFF does not guarantee representation, institutional support, legal assistance, or publication. All intake communications are subject to independent review, credibility assessment, and evidence validation. TTIFF reserves the right to decline support for any reason or no reason.

Confidentiality

TTIFF will handle all intake communications with discretion and will take reasonable measures to protect source identity. However, no communication sent by conventional email is fully secure. If your concern is time-sensitive or involves information whose disclosure could create personal risk, please indicate this in your initial message so we can coordinate secure communication channels. A formal secure submission system (SecureDrop / Hush Line) is being deployed and will be available on this site shortly.

Vetting Process

TTIFF independently verifies the credentials, employment, timeline, and technical claims of every potential source before taking any action. This process protects both the institution and the people who come forward, and typically involves direct communication over multiple exchanges. Your cooperation with the vetting process is essential.

No Guarantee of Outcome

TTIFF does not guarantee any specific outcome, timeline, or result from any intake, referral, or advocacy activity. We will do our best, and we will be honest about what we can and cannot do. We will not promise what we cannot deliver.

If you are in immediate danger, are facing imminent retaliation, or are experiencing a mental-health crisis, please contact local emergency services, a licensed attorney, or a qualified crisis resource. TTIFF is not an emergency response organization and does not operate a 24/7 crisis line.

Privacy Policy

TTIFF takes source and visitor privacy seriously.

Information We Collect

This website does not currently use advertising cookies, third-party tracking pixels, or analytics tools that identify individual visitors. Basic server logs may record standard access information (IP address, request timestamp, browser type) for security and operational purposes. These logs are retained for a limited time and are not used to build user profiles.

If you voluntarily send us information through our intake address or any form on this site, we collect only what you send. We do not sell, trade, or share intake information with third parties except as required by law or as necessary to advance the matter you raised with your informed consent.

Fonts & External Resources

This site loads typography resources from Google Fonts. Google may log font requests in accordance with its own privacy practices. No user identification is transmitted beyond standard browser headers.

Your Choices

You may contact us at any time to request information about what we have collected from you, to ask that it be corrected, or to ask that it be deleted. We will honor such requests to the fullest extent consistent with our obligations to other sources, legal process, and the integrity of ongoing matters.

Disclosures

Organizational Status

TTIFF is an independent nonprofit watchdog organization in formation. As of the effective date of this document, TTIFF is:

  • Operating as a nonprofit entity in pre-formation status;
  • Pursuing federal tax-exempt recognition under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code;
  • In discussions regarding fiscal sponsorship to facilitate interim grant-making and donation acceptance;
  • Building an initial advisory board of engineers, attorneys, former regulators, and nonprofit governance professionals.

Until 501(c)(3) status is formally granted, donations to TTIFF may not qualify as tax-deductible charitable contributions in the United States. Prospective donors should consult their own tax advisors. This website will be updated when our status changes.

Funding & Independence

TTIFF does not accept funding from fossil fuel operators, their affiliates, or their trade associations. We do not accept funding that imposes editorial or investigative conditions. Our funding sources, once established, will be disclosed in our published financial statements.

No Affiliation

TTIFF is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any federal, state, or local government agency; any oil and gas operator or contractor; any industry trade association; or any political party. References to specific regulatory frameworks, agencies, statutes, or corporate entities are made solely for informational and accountability purposes.

Forward-Looking Statements

This website includes forward-looking statements about TTIFF's planned activities, organizational structure, and areas of focus. Such statements reflect current intentions and may change as the organization develops.

Changes to This Document

TTIFF may update these Terms, Policies, and Disclosures from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the version number and effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Because TTIFF is a new organization in its beta phase, this document is expected to evolve as our legal structure, advisory relationships, and operational infrastructure formalize. We commit to honoring the good-faith expectations of every source, visitor, and partner who engages with us in good faith, regardless of subsequent updates to this document.
